Monitoring in retail
The trend for some time now in the processes of the retail industry, is automation, which allows to manage efficiently and more comfortably the stores, logistics, orders, inventory, online sales, finance and in general, all the parts that make a business work.
Many of these automation applications, coupled with other specific equipment, such as point of sale (POS) terminals, air conditioning devices, labeling and scanning tools, provide a competitive advantage for retail companies. As long as they are used correctly and properly monitored.
Whether through an enterprise resource planning system (ERP) or similar software, companies rely on a service for their productivity, typically running on one of their servers or in the cloud, where any small failure could lead to production downtime, inability to place orders or even to make sales.
For this reason, the monitoring of this type of software and the stores themselves, becomes an almost obligatory process for all those with businesses dependent on new technologies.

What can be monitored?
Within the world of stores, one could say that there are two separate areas, the management and the physical store itself.
In the first section, our experience tells us that it is very important to keep our servers well monitored, as well as the connection with the ERP, storage, etc.
On the other hand, in the more physical part of the stores, it is important to have everything monitored and controlled. From things as basic as the internet connection, necessary to make orders, ambient temperature or electricity consumption. As well as having the possibility to compare these data and others with those of the management part, which will allow to know the weak points of the business and learn how to improve it.
Possible uses of Zabbix
The Zabbix distributed monitoring software allows, among other things, the monitoring and control of the following elements:
- Generation of alarms if the connection to the network is lost in any store or equipment
- Control and monitoring of the operations of all the company's equipment
- Generation of alarms if any equipment is damaged
- Control of the electrical consumption of a store
- Generation of metrics to measure the efficiency of a particular store or piece of equipment
- Notification if a certain amount of cash is exceeded in the till
- Monitoring of web pages
- Monitoring of Marketing Campaigns
- Automation of certain tasks such as opening or closing a store
